(1) World Wetlands Day celebrated on 02 February.

This day is celebrated as wetlands day as Ramsar convention was adopted on this day in 1971.

Important Points:

Ramsar is not ant acronym, it is a city in Iran.

Wetlands day 2023 theme: “It’s Time for Wetlands Restoration”

Ramsar Convention defines wetlands as “areas of marsh, fen, peatland or water, whether natural or artificial, permanent or temporary, with water that is static or flowing, fresh, brackish or salt, including areas of marine water the depth of which at low tide does not exceed six metres”.

Aim of Ramsar Convention: To raise public awareness of wetland values and benefits promote the conservation and wise use of wetlands.
